A treasure of the North Shore

Welcome, friends, to The Bell Inn & Tavern.

This building, and the land it sits on, has a long and storied history.

The original building on this property was The Bell Tavern, a colonial gathering spot that became a place of controversy and legend. Built around 1740, the tavern was constructed when the area was part of Danvers, which years before had split from Salem.

Beginning in 1775, the tavern was a notable central meeting location during the American Revolutionary War. Local minutemen even gathered in the courtyard before marching off to the war’s Battles of Lexington and Concord.
